How it Works.
We are excited about being your poultry processor. Please read this page to learn more about our operation and what you need to do to prepare your birds for the best processing experience possible. The information here is dense but essential. Please read through it several times to ensure that you understand it completely.
Make a Reservation
Call or email us to make a reservation. You may also book a reservation inquiry online here. The information that we will need is:
1. Business name and contact info
2. What species (chicken or turkey)
3. Quantity of birds
4. Breed of birds
5. Preferred dates
We require that all of our farm partners add Dependable Poultry Processors to their liability insurance. If you do not have liability insurance we recommend Campbell's Risk Management. Further, you will be asked to sign a "No Fault Waiver" which frees us from your ability to sue DPP. For reservations of more than 25 chickens or 10 turkeys a deposit of $100 will be required to confirm your reservation. Once the deposit is received we will send a confirmation email with your reservation.
Withdraw Feed and Crate
We recommend removing feed 16 hours in advance of your appointment but no later than 12 hours. When arriving at our facility birds who have not had feed removed for 12 hours will have to wait until the 12 hour withdrawal period has been met.
All birds arriving at our facility must be crated (preferred) or somehow contained. If your chickens are not in crates we require that a farm employee catch and load their own birds into the kill cones. Farm partners must provide their own employee to catch and load turkeys regardless of if they are crated or not. Once in the kill cones a DPP employee will kill the birds.
Processing and Packaging
Once killed your bird will be scalded, plucked and eviscerated. From evisceration the bird will be checked over carefully by our quality control team then packaged, weighed and labeled and put directly into your transportation. Your loading vehicle and coolers must be left with us while we process your birds.
We require that our farm partners bring their own coolers with ice or another cooling mechanism. If you do not have ice we have several recommendations for locally sourcing ice. The safety of your product is extremely important to us and we will not return your birds to you without ice or another kind of cooling mechanism.
